Employment

RISE believes that employment is a key step toward achieving self-sufficiency. In 2014, RISE was awarded a three-year federal grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement to support its Self-Sufficiency Program, which helps individuals secure and maintain meaningful work.

Why Hire a Refugee?

Refugees Are Highly Motivated Employees

Refugees have endured tremendous hardship—losing homes, possessions, and careers. Their drive to rebuild their lives, learn new skills, and provide stability for their families makes them outstanding candidates for employment across various roles and industries.

They Add Value to Your Business

Refugee employees contribute strong work ethic, initiative, valuable experience, and cultural diversity. They often demonstrate high job retention, and employers may benefit from tax credits and workforce training incentives when hiring them.

They Positively Impact the Economy

Most refugees begin contributing to the economy by paying taxes within their first year of resettlement in the United States.

They Strengthen the Community

Employing refugees supports community development by promoting family stability, economic independence, and civic engagement. Employers also receive access to a range of federally funded services including candidate screening, job-readiness training, vocational English instruction, coaching, and assistance with employment verification requirements, all aimed at ensuring a successful and sustainable hiring experience.
